These days, almost all of us get FOMO about the latest happenings in AI. We all know that AI is the next big thing. It is equivalent to, if not better than, the internet of 2000s. It is and will change our lives (for the better).
Just like the internet, there is a lot of hype and a lot of noise regarding AI. Every day, something or the other changes - a new model comes up which upends everything that exists, or a new tool or a product comes out and everyone considers that to be the new Holy Grail of AI. The fact is that the things in the AI world are changing so fast, that it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with it.
That is the purpose of why I created this - DinoScope. It collates the latest happenings, news about AI and product launches from 33 different sources, filters all of them using AI, rejects the irrelevant/ flaky/attention-seeking articles and shows only the relevant articles - split between News, Product Launches and Company Moves. All of these, just so that we can know: what changed in AI today?

Here’s a short rundown of how DinoScope works:
At fixed points of the day (say every 6 hours), a cron job is triggered, which fetches the latest news from the RSS feeds of 33 different news websites. These are the websites, which talk more about AI and tech in general.
The fetches articles are filtered through LLM, which selects the AI-relevant ones and sorts them into the 3 buckets we have. It rejects the fluff articles and irrelevant articles about other tech/politics. The LLM also checks if there are multiple articles of the same news/information and selects only the most prominent ones. In order to save memory costs, we delete all articles older than 3 days.
Every morning, all the articles gathered in the previous day are sorted via LLM for importance and made part of the Digest, which is sent out automatically to all subscribed emails.
What powers DinoScope?
LLM Model: Gemini’s free tier is more than enough for this job. Currently the API is configured to use the latest Flash or Flash Lite model. I have also made sure to split the AI filtering jobs into multiple batches, so as not fall afoul of the rate limits in the free tier.
Mail Engine for OTPs and Daily Digests: Resend
Backend and Database: Supabase (Again, free tier is more than enough for this project). We need proper databases to store the news articles’ meta data and also to run the cron at fixed intervals.
Anti bot prevention: Cloudfare’s invisible Turnstile is incorporated in the Subscribe popup - to prevent bots from triggering OTPs randomly
Hosting: Code is hosted in Github and deployed via Vercel.
