Many people don't know that I am a huge football fan. When people find out, they usually ask: "Which club do you support?"
To which I say: "Borussia Dortmund"
And most people just stare or nod along - because, most people don't know about Borussia Dortmund or BVB as it is called often. Or most people don't care about football clubs outside England's top 6, two Spanish giants, PSG and Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund is one of the perennial underdogs in the European footballing scene. I fell in love with BVB back in 2014 - possibly the worst year for BVB in recent history. BVB had just been German Champions for 2 years and a UCL finalists (where they lost to their bitter German rivals - Bayern Munich in the final). But 2014 was different. It was the year where they lost to anyone and everyone. At one point, BVB was languishing in the relegation battle. But the fighting spirit that they showed, to get back up to 7th at the end and how the fans still rallied behind the club - even at the worst defeats - connected something with me. And I became a lifelong fan - the decision which would cause many heart breaks for years to come.
BVB is one of those clubs which are majority owned by fans and fiercely proud of it. BVB has the highest fan attendance per game on average on earth. The famous yellow wall is the stuff of legends. One of bucket list items is to witness a game from the yellow wall - jumping up and down the whole game.
Because the club is not known or followed widely outside Germany, there are not many fan central websites in English. Even in Goal.com or Fotmob, if you want to see news/latest developments surrounding BVB, you will end up seeing lots of irrelevant news/rumours surrounding other clubs.
